My Design Philosophy

I focus on the end result when starting a new design: a kitchen should be Personal, Functional, Contextual, and Beautiful.

Personal

Getting to know my clients and understanding what they are looking for is where it all starts. This personal connection is the inspiration for the project, and the basis for developing a unique design that reflects my client’s personalities.

Functional

I enjoy finding practical solutions to address the challenges that life presents. That is why I am drawn to kitchen design, which is primarily about finding functional solutions vs. primarily decorative solutions, as is the case for so many other areas of the home. Santa Fe Kitchen Design meets both the needs and desires of the client, as well as the practical needs of the kitchen. All of this drives the layout and features of the kitchen, which are designed first.

Contextual

I focus on integrating a functional design with the client’s aesthetic and budget, and with the style of the exterior and interior space that the kitchen will be in. Santa Fe homes often have a strong character – they are rarely a white box in the sky – which the design should pay tribute to. A kitchen can strengthen the character of the existing space, or it can highlight the existing features of a space by receding into the background. It can also complement parts of an existing space (for example, with color choices) but otherwise create a counterpoint (with materials, door style, etc.) to show the individuality of the client while honoring the integrity of an overall space.

Beautiful

A beautiful kitchen is one that matches the personality of the client, enables an efficient use of the available space, integrates with and enhances the look and feel of the home, and comes at a price within the client’s budget. A beautiful kitchen is not one that follows the latest design trends; rather it’s a more timeless space that will enhance a home, and that a client will enjoy for decades to come.
